• mice do not exhibit abnormalities in the distribution or levels of alpha-synuclein, ubiquitin, tau, glial markers, or autophagy markers or neuronal degeneration in the brain
• cultured midbrain dopaminergic neurons exhibit an increase in neurite complexity
• dopaminergic neurons from 20-22 month old, but not 5 month old mice, exhibit abnormal nuclei with reduced nuclear circularity
• substantia nigra pars compacta neuronal nuclei exhibit irregular shape and numerous invaginations of the nuclear envelope
• however, mice do not exhibit nigral dopaminergic neuronal loss and have normal dopaminergic nerve terminals in the striatum
