Abnormal morphology of Cers2Gt(S16-4B1)Sor/Cers2Gt(S16-4B1)Sor trigeminal nerve axons

nervous system
• at 9 months, multiple empty cysts are found in the white matter unlike in wild-type mice
• smaller than in wild-type mice with ragged contours
• at 9 months, multiple empty cysts are found in the internal granular layer unlike in wild-type mice
• 20% of axons in the trigeminal nerve exhibit inner surface defects of the myelin sheaths, including vesiculation and multifocal detachment of the inner myelin lamella, unlike in wild-type mice
• myelin stainability is progressively lost
• 20% of axons in the trigeminal nerve exhibit inner surface defects of the myelin sheaths, including vesiculation and multifocal detachment of the inner myelin lamella, unlike in wild-type mice

neoplasm
• 1 mouse developed multiple liver adenomata
• tumor cells are pale hepatocytes often filled with large lipid droplets
• between 7 and 9 months, 2 of 3 mice develop hepatocellular carcinoma

homeostasis/metabolism
• fewer very long fatty acid ceramide species are detected in the brain, liver, and kidneys compared to in wild-type mice

liver/biliary system
• 1 mouse developed multiple liver adenomata
• between 7 and 9 months, 2 of 3 mice develop hepatocellular carcinoma
• tumor cells are pale hepatocytes often filled with large lipid droplets
