phenotype observed in females
phenotype observed in males
N normal phenotype
endocrine/exocrine glands
• decreased hormone secretion from islets of langerhans in vitro
• granule number and morphology of beta cells are unchanged
• in response to the glucose challenge, the peak in plasma insulin was decreased compared to wild type control

homeostasis/metabolism
• in response to the glucose challenge, the peak in plasma insulin was decreased compared to wild type control
• plasma glucose level in response to i.p. glucose injection was higher than wild type control
• however, insulin sensitivity was not affected

N normal phenotype
endocrine/exocrine glands
• basal catecholamine levels in chromaffin cells are lower than in wild-type cells
• evoked catecholamine secretions from chromaffin cell are decreased 33% compared to in wild-type mice
• exocytosis spikes are less than in wild-type cells
• L-DOPA-treated cells fail to uptake more catecholamines unlike similarly treated wild-type cells
• chromaffin cells exhibit a reduction in catecholamine secretion per quantal size of exocytosis compared with wild-type cells
• however, the frequency of exocytotic events is normal

homeostasis/metabolism
• adrenomedullary epinephrine levels are decreased 36% compared to in wild-type mice

nervous system
• basal catecholamine levels in chromaffin cells are lower than in wild-type cells
