• the total cell numbers in the thymus and peripheral lymphoid organs are normal
• the proportion of CD4- T cells increased following TCR activation unlike in wild-type mice
• CD4 expression is absent in preseletion double positive thymocytes unlike wild-type mice
• however, CD4 expression is present in post-positive selection thymocytes and maintained in CD4 single positive mature thymocytes and the frequency of positively selected TCRbetahiCD24hi69+ or TCRbetahiCD24lo69- thymocytes, or of TCRbeta+ splenocytes is normal
• the double positive population in the thymus is lost unlike in wild-type mice
• the ratio of CD4 single positive to CD8 single positive T cells is inverted compared to in wild-type mice
• CD4 expression level in mature CD4+ cells is one third of expression in CD4+ T cells from wild-type mice
• CD4lo T cells lose CD4 expression within 2 divisions following TCR activation unlike wild-type cells
• the percentage of CD4 single positive cell in the thymus is decreased compared to in wild-type mice
• the number of TCRbeta+ CD4+ T cells in the spleen is decreased compared to in wild-type mice
