immune system
• mice exhibit an increase in lymphoid and myeloid cells in the peritoneum compared with wild-type mice
• in the peritoneum
• at 6 months
• resident peritoneal macrophages exhibit reduced binding of apoptotic cells compared with wild-type cells
• resident peritoneal macrophages exhibit a slight decrease in Fc receptor-mediated uptake of IgG-coated beads compared with wild-type cells
• fewer necrotic cells associate with macrophages compared with wild-type cells
• unstimulated macrophages exhibit increased TNF-alpha secretion compared with wild-type cells
• LPS fails to stimulate as much TNF-alpha production from peritoneal macrophages compared with similarly treated wild-type cells
• however, association with and internalization of C3-coated sheep red blood cells is normal
• resident peritoneal macrophages exhibit reduced phagocytosis of apoptotic cells compared with wild-type mice
• however, thioglycollate-activated macrophages exhibit normal phagocytosis of apoptotic cells
• LPS fails to stimulate as much TNF-alpha production from peritoneal macrophages compared with similarly treated wild-type cells
• unstimulated resident peritoneal macrophages exhibit increased TNF-alpha secretion compared with wild-type cells
