reproductive system
• at 2 months of age the anterior lobe contains small glands and fewer epithelial foldings
• expression analysis indicates a defect in epithelial cell differentiation
• significant impairment in the development of branches and ductal tips in all 3 lobes
• at 2 months of age the dorsolateral lobe has a few glands and clusters of small ducts composed of a simple low columnar epithelium
• these ducts resemble immature prostate
• in the dorsolateral and ventral lobes clusters of small ducts composed of a simple low columnar epithelium are present
• these ducts resemble immature prostate
• decrease in the number of branches and terminal duct tips in all 3 lobes
• the luminal epithelial layer is composed of cuboidal basal like cells rather than columnar secretory cells
• multifocal hyperproliferative epithelial cells are observed in every prostate lobe
• despite the presence of hyperproliferative cells no prostate tumors are detected in mice up to 6 months of age
• about half the size of control glands
• similar in appearance to the dorsolateral lobe
• decrease in the protein concentrations in prostate gland secretions from intact males
