• unlike null mice, knock in embryos undergo gastrulation
• fewer visible vessels at E9.5 and E10.5
• placentas are composed predominantly of clusters of cuboidal trophoblasts
• the spongiotrophoblast layer is difficult to discern
• the labyrinth layer is difficult to discern
• embryonic blood vessels fail to invade the labyrinth layer
• thinner and more compact compared to controls
• at E9.5 and E10.5

cellular
• in MEFs actin filaments are thin, disorganized and often fail to align with the direction of migration
• fewer and smaller focal adhesions are detected in MEFs and the stress fibers in the focal adhesions are in disarray
• a transwell assay indicates that directional cell migration is impaired in MEFs
• however, the speed at which MEFs close a wound is similar to that of wild-type cells

cardiovascular system
