• however, over-expression of Flrt3 partially rescues lethality
• fewer than expected mice are present throughout fetal growth and development
• fewer than expected mice are present at weaning

• significant reduction in the thickness of the compact ventricular myocardium at E11.5
• the epicardium is ruffled and uneven with numerous discontinuities disrupting cell-cell contracts unlike in wild-type mice
• the epicardial layer exhibits Perlecan depositions and an increase in thickness of the basement membrane layer compared to in wild-type mice
• however, over-expression of Flrt3 rescued epicardial integrity defects
• significant reduction in the thickness of the endocardium lining the inner surface of the heart at E11.5
• at E11.5 and E12.5
• at E11.5 and E12.5, mice exhibit blood pooling and superficial hemorrhaging unlike wild-type mice
