behavior/neurological
N |
• unexpectedly, homozygotes show no alterations in gross vision (forepaw reach test), hearing (ear twitch test), olfaction (buried food finding test), pain sensitivity (hot plate test), anxiety, social interaction and locomotor activity, and exhibit normal exploratory activity, barbering, nest-building and marble-burying behavior and swimming speed relative to wild-type and heterozygous control mice
|
• homozygotes exhibit significantly decreased sensitivity to the locomotor stimulating effects of amphetamine (5 mg/kg) relative to wild-type and heterozygous control mice
• however, no differences are observed in the loss and regain of righting reflex test with 4 g/kg of ethanol, indicating normal sensitivity to ethanol
|
• in an active avoidance test, homozygotes exhibit a less steep learning curve with significantly less correct responses on day 3 relative to control mice, indicating a deficit in emotional learning
• however, no changes are observed in simple emotional learning tasks (fear conditioning) or learning paradigms involving the hippocampus (spatial memory in Morris water maze)

• homozygotes exhibit normal body weight at 2.5 months of age
