Approach toward inanimate objects is altered in Lrrtm1tm1.1Jaru/Lrrtm1tm1.1Jaru mice

behavior/neurological
• mice exhibit increased freezing compared with wild-type mice
• mice exhibit increased freezing compared with wild-type mice
• a Morris water maze, mice exhibit poorer performance with increased diving and rearing compared with wild-type mice
• in an elevated plus maze, mice spend more times in the open arms, enter open arms more, and produce more fecal droppings compared with wild-type mice
• on a circle platform, mice exhibit increased freezing compared with wild-type mice
• in an open-field test, mice spend less time with a large object compared with wild-type mice
• in a home cage, mice make less contact with small objects compared with wild-type mice
• in a social discrimination test, mice avoid approaching an empty cage during the first exposure in the habituation session unlike wild-type mice
• fluoxetine-treated mice exhibit less time in the open arms of an elevated plus maze compared with untreated mice but more than a similarly treated wild-type mice
• however, mice make normal contact with a small object in an open-field and exhibit normal preference for a novel object
• in a light-dark box transition test, mice exhibit increased latency to entering the dark box and make few transitions compared with wild-type mice
• in an open-field test with four holes, mice exhibit prolonged latency to first head dip compared with wild-type mice
• mice spend more time in the corners of an open-field compared with wild-type mice
• in a Morris water maze
• in young mice under bright illumination (250 lx) in an open-field box
• in 8 month old mice in several behavioral tests under darker conditions (70 lx)
• in a social discrimination test, mice contact the familiar mice more than wild-type mice

nervous system
• detected by MRI
• spine length in the hippocampus is increased compared to in wild-type mice
• however, mice exhibit normal width and density of the dendritic spines
• synaptic density in the stratum radiatum is reduced compared to in wild-type mice
• however, mice exhibit normal postsynaptic density (PSD) length, PSD thickness, and synaptic cleft size
• mice exhibit an increase in mean inter-vesicular distance in the stratum radiatum and stratum oriens compared with wild-type mice

homeostasis/metabolism
• MK801-treated mice exhibit increased episodes of moving, decreased duration of single movements, and increased contact with a large object compared with similarly treated wild-type mice
• fluoxetine-treated mice exhibit less time in the open arms of an elevated plus maze compared with untreated mice but more than a similarly treated wild-type mice
• however, mice exhibit normal response to clozapine treatment
