mortality/aging
• at E18.5 only 7% of mice are homozygous rather than the expected 25%
• death occurs between E11.5 and E18.5

• at P5 ovaries contained less than 20% as many oocytes as wild-type ovaries
• at E13.5 and P5
• however, gonocyte proliferation is seen at P5 and P10 in males
• at E11.5, most males and females have less than 5% as many germ cells as found in wild-type littermate controls in the genital ridge
• at E13.5 the number of MVH+ germ cells is reduced in males and females
• many mislocalized PGCs (located near the hindlimb buds and the base of the tail) are seen at E9.5
