sex reversal
(

)
• Background Sensitivity: crosses of X/YDel(Y)4H male mice to females of C57BL/6 or closely related strains yielded 573 female-appearing and 170 male-appearing (and 4 sexually indeterminate) progeny, the likelihood of which (P-value; by X2 analysis) is <0.001; of 55 apparent females analyzed cytologically, 40 were XX, 1 XO and 14 XY
• the relative proportions of apparently female to outwardly male progeny from crosses of X/YDel(Y)4H male mice to C3H/HeH and (C3H/HeH x 101/H)F1 females (4 and 117 female, respectively, and 95 and 11 male, respectively) are not significantly skewed (C3H/HeH: X2=3.27, P=0.07056; C3H101H: X2=2.283, P=0.13) toward phenotypic females, and the apparent preponderance of females becomes less so with increasing contribution of C3H/HeH and 101/H to the genetic background, suggesting that sex reversal to female of X/YDel(Y)4H animals rarely or never occurs on this background.
