reproductive system
• males fail to sire offspring when mated with wild-type FVB/N females
• males, however exhibit normal mating behavior, normal sperm counts and normal testes histology
• females are fertile
|
• wild-type superovulated females that are mated with mutant homozygous males show spermatozoa in the oviduct and ampulla but no fertilized eggs are observed, indicating a defect in sperm-egg interactions
• mutant spermatozoa accumulate in the perivitelline space of unfertilized wild-type oocytes indicating that spermatozoa are unable to fuse with the egg
