• hemoglobin content in peripheral blood and reticulocyte counts are within normal values; in induced anemia, reticulocyte numbers significantly increase while percentage of reporter expressing cells and lacZ content per red cell are unaltered by hemolysis indicating that high levels of beta-galactosidase expression in red blood cells do not adversely affect cell survival
