• 3 of 18 mutants exhibit abnormal tumor-like ovaries at 8 weeks of age, with tumors showing some, but not all the characteristics of the mature teratomas
• 5 of 18 mutants develop ovarian teratomas at 2-6 months of age, some of which appear malignant; mice that develop teratomas show high transgene expression
• teratomas are characterized by areas of invasive, undifferentiated cells and inclusion cysts lined with ciliated cells reminiscent of oviductal or respiratory epithelium
• 3 of the tumors contain squamous cell-lined cysts filled with keratin and well-to-moderately differentiated invasive squamous cells and nervous tissue-like areas
• fat, blood-filled spaces, calcified bone and cartilage formation, and thyroid gland-like structures are seen in some teratomas
• by 6 months of age, teratomas are about 10 times the size of a normal ovary, do not show normal follicular or ovarian structures, and contain many highly proliferative epithelium-lined inclusion cysts
• mutants develop ovarian inclusion cysts; mice that only develop inclusion cysts show low transgene expression
