behavior/neurological
• in the passive avoidance test, the latency to enter the dark chamber is similar to controls at 7 months of age, however the post-shock latency is shorter, indicating impaired memory retention
• however, 11-14 months old mutants show normal locomotor activity
• in the Morris water maze hidden platform test, mutants show a higher escape latency than controls and in the probe trail, 12.5 month old mutants sow reduced dwelling time in the target quadrant compared to controls
• however performance in the visual platform test is normal
• in the elevated plus maze, 11 month old mutants, but not 5 month old mice, visit the open arm less frequently and spend less time there than controls, suggesting increased anxiety with age

mortality/aging
• 92% of mutants survive until at least 480 days vs. 100% of controls

nervous system
• thickness of anti-NeuN-stained pyramidal layer of the hippocampal CA1 region is reduced
• cell density of parietal cortex and prefrontal cortex are reduced at 16-18 months
• cell density of parietal cortex and prefrontal cortex are reduced at 16-18 months
• severe atrophy of large apical dendrites of pyramidal neurons in various cortical regions including the prefrontal and parietal cortices at 16-18 months of age
• neuronal loss is seen at 16-18 months of age but not at 5 months
• however, plaque-like amyloid beta deposition is not seen up to 18 months of age and gliosis is not seen in the cerebral cortices or hippocampal regions at 14-16 months of age
