• some, but not all, homozygotes have severe hearing loss, with one homozygote at 3.5 weeks of age showing severe hearing loss, and two of four at approximately 3 weeks of age showing severe hearing loss while one had milde hearing loss and the fourth had normal hearing.
• the loss of hearing may parallel the disease progression

• quivering movement by 3 weeks of age, progresses rapidly until premature death any time after wean age

mortality/aging
• homozygotes die anytime after wean age and only a few have survived to 10 weeks of age

• runted appearance by 3 weeks of age
