• by 3 weeks of age all homozygotes display a rear-leg high-stepping ataxia typical of hotfoot mutants, wherein the rear legs are each lifted higher than normal and placed down with a patting-like motion, and by approximately 2 weeks of age some homozygotes display a leaning, side-to-side gait
