reproductive system
• lack appreciable levels of round and elongated postmeiotic spermatids
• lack appreciable levels of round and elongated postmeiotic spermatids
• epididymides are devoid of mature spermatozoa
• about 20% of tubules contain multiple apoptotic cells
• most tubules are highly vacuolized
• severe reduction in size
• severe reduction in weight
• weight is similar to controls at P14 but reduced by 3 weeks of age
• weigh only 30% of wild-type at 8 weeks of age
• arrest at the late pachytene stage
• absence of markers for post-meiotic cells indicates a block in male meiosis
• no diplotene or later stages of meiosis are seen indicating a failure to progress beyond the pachytene stage of meiosis
• males, but not females, are infertile
