• after intranasal challenge with the fungal allergen Alternaria alternata (ALT), the released IL-33 is predominantly found in its reduced (active) form as observed in wild-type controls, reaching a maximum concentration in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid between 5 and 15 min, followed by a rapid decline to undetectable levels by 120 min
• following ALT challenge, disulphide bonded (inactive) IL-33 levels gradually increase, peaking at 30-120 min and becoming undetectable by 5 h, as in wild-type control mice
