• insulitis is decreased at 10-15 weeks of age and diabetes onset is delayed and less severe, but not ablated, relative to wild-type
• fewer CD8+ T cells and more CD4+ T cells in the islets than in NOD controls and these CD8+ cells have a higher percentage of CD62L negative/CD44+ effector cells than in NOD controls
