Ddx21em1(IMPC)Bay/Ddx21em1(IMPC)Bay mice exhibit embryonic lethality, with embryos recovered at E3.5 but not at E7.5. Some E3.5 embryos appear as morulae and others as blastocysts. Morula mutants do not hatch from the zona or form outgrowths. Blastocyst mutants hatch from the zona and form outgrowths.

• although homozygous embryos are present in expected Mendelian ratios at E3.5, some appear as morulae and some as blastocysts; no homozygous embryos or excess resorption sites are observed at E7.5

• some embryos appear as morulae at E3.5

reproductive system
• in vitro outgrowth assays show that morula-like embryos do not hatch from the zona pellucida and fail to form outgrowths after 3 days in culture
• however, blastocyst-like embryos do hatch from the zona and form outgrowths
