• mice exhibit increased susceptibility to collagen-induced arthritis (CIA), showing higher clinical scores and incidence of CIA
• arthritic joints of CIA mice show higher levels of infiltration of polymorphonuclear leukocytes, pannus formation, erosion of cartilage, and bone destruction
• mice with CIA show upregulation of Il6, Cxcl2, Nos2, and Il1b mRNA expression in inflammatory joints, indicating enhanced inflammatory mediator production
• however, anti-chicken type II collagen (IIC) antibody concentrations in the serum, IIC-specific T cell proliferative responses and cytokine production in lymph node cells upon stimulation with IIC are normal, indicating normal T cell priming and production of antigen-specific antibodies
