• B-cells exhibit enhanced T-cell independent immune responses
• however, mice show no perturbation in B cell generation or maturation and show normal B cell responses to T-cell dependent antigens
• B cells are hyperresponsive to BCR stimulation (cross-linking of BCR by anti-IgM (Fab)2 fragments) in vitro, showing increased proliferation compared to wild-type B cells
• at both low and high dose BCR stimulation, B cells show a much higher level of calcium signaling
• mice immunized with the T-cell independent type I antigen NP-Ficoll secrete greater amounts of antigen-specific IgM and IgG3 antibodies
• increase in IgM antibodies in sera
• however, levels of other Ig classes are similar to wild-type mice
• mice immunized with the T-cell independent type I antigen NP-LPS secrete greater amounts of antigen-specific IgM antibodies
