mortality/aging
• after intraperitoneal (i.p.) infection with herpes simplex virus-1 (HSV-1) at a high dose (5 x 107 pfu/mouse), 8-week-old mice show a significantly higher susceptibility to HSV-1-triggered death than wild-type controls, with all mice found dead within 9 days post-infection

immune system
N
• uninfected mice show no significant changes in the numbers or compositions of major immune cells in lymph nodes, spleen, and thymus relative to wild-type controls
• after i.p. infection with vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) at a high dose (2 x 107 pfu/mouse), mice show no significant differences in survival relative to similarly infected wild-type controls
• at 6 h after i.p. infection with HSV-1 at 1 x 107 pfu/mouse, 8-week-old mice show significantly reduced serum cytokine levels relative to similarly infected wild-type controls
• however, mice show normal serum cytokine levels after i.p. infection with VSV at 1 x 107 pfu/mouse
• significant reduction in serum IFN-alpha levels at 6 h after i.p. infection with HSV-1 at 1 x 107 pfu/mouse
• significant reduction in serum IFN-beta levels at 6 h after i.p. infection with HSV-1 at 1 x 107 pfu/mouse
• significant reduction in serum IL-6 levels at 6 h after i.p. infection with HSV-1 at 1 x 107 pfu/mouse
• significant reduction in serum TNFalpha levels at 6 h after i.p. infection with HSV-1 at 1 x 107 pfu/mouse
• 6 days after intranasal (i.n.) infection with HSV-1 at 1 x 106 pfu/mouse, mice exhibit significantly higher viral titers in the brain along with markedly reduced mRNA levels of downstream effecter genes relative to similarly infected wild-type controls
• after intraperitoneal (i.p.) infection with herpes simplex virus-1 (HSV-1) at a high dose (5 x 107 pfu/mouse), 8-week-old mice show a significantly higher susceptibility to HSV-1-triggered death than wild-type controls, with all mice found dead within 9 days post-infection

homeostasis/metabolism
