Pdcd7em1(IMPC)Mbp/Pdcd7em1(IMPC)Mbp mice exhibit embryonic lethality, with embryos recovered at E3.5 as early blastocysts but not at E7.5. Blastocysts grown in vitro hatch from the zona pellucida and form irregular outgrowths with no apparent inner cell mass colony or trophoblast giant cells.

• in vitro, no trophoblast giant cells (TGCs) are apparent after 3 days in culture

mortality/aging
• although early blastocysts are present in expected Mendelian ratios at E3.5, no homozygous embryos are recovered at E7.5
• however, excess resorption sites suggest that embryos elicit a decidual response in vivo

reproductive system
• in vitro, blastocysts hatch from the zona pellucida but form irregular outgrowths after 3 days in culture
