mortality/aging
• mean survival time is 12.8 weeks due to liver tumors

neoplasm
• mice develop liver tumors by 10 weeks of age; development of tumors occurs in 4 stages, with no liver changes in embryonic/fetal stages, hyperplastic liver with crowding of hepatocyte nuclei due to reduced cytoplasm in newborns to 2 week old mice, diffuse liver cell dysplasia without tumor nodules between 3 and 8 weeks of age, and hepatocellular carcinoma after 8 weeks of age
• hepatocellular carcinomas are usually of well-differentiated cell type similar to human hepatomas with trabecular, solid, acinar, or tubular patterns

liver/biliary system
• hyperplastic bile ducts are occasionally seen in nontumoral areas of the liver
