• in culture, hippocampal primary neurons derived from E18 mice and transfected with EGFP show no changes in spine density of dendrites >80 um away from the soma at DIV14
• Golgi staining of adult brains revealed normal spine density, length and head width in basal secondary dendrites from hippocampal CA1 pyramidal neurons
• acute hippocampal slices from adult mice show enhanced basal synaptic transmission in CA3-CA1 synapses in the presence of picrotoxin, an inhibitor of the GABAA receptor-mediated currents
• however, paired-pulse facilitation (PPF) ratios evoked by stimulation of Schaffer collateral fibers with different interstimulus intervals are normal
• no changes in the levels of hippocampal synaptic proteins are observed in adult brains
• analysis of input-output relations between stimulus intensity applied to Schaffer collateral fibers from CA3 and the slope of field excitatory postsynaptic potentials (fEPSPs) recorded in the stratum radiatum of CA1 revealed a significantly larger fEPSP slope at any given stimulus intensity
• at 60 minutes after theta-burst stimulation of Schaffer collateral fibers, acute hippocampal slices from adult mice show impaired LTP in the CA3-CA1 synapses
• however, NMDAR-dependent long-term depression (LTD) in CA3-CA1 synapses is normal

• at 11 months of age, mice exhibit normal spontaneous cage activity during the dark and light phase and show no differences in exploratory and locomotor behavior (open field test) or anxiety (elevated plus maze) relative to wild-type controls
• no significant defects are observed in hippocampus-dependent memory tests (Morris water maze and contextual fear conditioning)
• in the rotarod test, adult mice exhibit a decreased latency to fall during the first three trials but not during the final trial, indicating a delay in motor learning
