• more than 95% of sperm show abnormalities of sperm flagella, including coiled flagella (39.4%), bent caliber (21.9%), short flagella (5.5%) and irregular flagella (5.5%)
• however, sperm head shows no differences in morphology
• 34.4% of sperm show coiled flagella
• 21.9% of sperm show bent caliber forming hairpin loops
• 5.5% of sperm show short flagella
• sperm concentration is reduced
• sperm progressive motility is decreased
• sperm motility rate is decreased
• males mated with wild-type females have an average of 0 offspring per litter during a 3-month reproductive period
• however, size or weight of testes is unaffected
• in vitro fertilization (IVF) using caudal epididymal sperm to fertilize oocytes indicates fewer rates of two-cell embryos and blastocyst
• however, intracytoplasmic sperm injection into wild-type oocytes results in successful fertilization of oocytes in IVF
