• alveolar macrophages are enlarged, foamy-appearing, and intensely oil-red-O staining
• amorphous debris in the bronchoalveolar fluid with peribronchiolar lymphocytosis and increased bronchoalveolar fluid turbidity and cholesterol levels
• however, no pulmonary fibrosis is observed
