reproductive system
• sperm counts are reduced in 18-month-old mice but not in 3-month-old mice
• average spermatogonia number per seminiferous tubule is reduced at 18, but not 3, months of age
• the cluster size of spermatogonia derived from 18-month-old males grown in vitro is smaller
• 2-D cell cycle analysis shows a decreased proliferation rate of spermatogonia from 18-month-old mice
• cell cycle analysis on spermatogonia cells shows decreased proportion of S phase cells
• 18-month-old males show a decrease in the ratio of the G2 phase germ calls in testis, indicating reduced germ cell proliferation
• testis volumes are reduced in 18-month-old mice
• lumen diameter of some seminiferous tubules is enlarged by about 50%
• the proportion of abnormal seminiferous tubules per testis is increased in 18-month-old mice
• testis/body weight ratio is reduced in 18-month-old males
• litter sizes of 18-month-old, but not 3-month-old, males mated with wild-type females are reduced, indicating reduced fertility with age
• however, motility of sperm is normal in 18-month-old males

endocrine/exocrine glands
• testis volumes are reduced in 18-month-old mice
• lumen diameter of some seminiferous tubules is enlarged by about 50%
• the proportion of abnormal seminiferous tubules per testis is increased in 18-month-old mice
• testis/body weight ratio is reduced in 18-month-old males
