behavior/neurological
N
• no difference in anxiety related responses
• increased freezing after the second conditioned stimulus (CS)- unconditioned stimulus (US) stimulus and after exposure to the CS in the cued test
• in a fear memory extinction profile freezing is increased on day 2 but not day 3 compared to wild-type mice
• decreased distance traveled in an open field test, social discrimination test, and light-dark box test
• however, locomotion in home cages is similar to controls
• increased immobility time in forced swimming test during the first 30s
• in a buried food seeking test find the buried cookie more quickly suggesting elevated olfactory function
• in a resident-intruder assay show reduced attacking behavior and increased hiding behavior
• spend more time alone in a novel environment with an unfamiliar male mouse

nervous system
• decrease in the calretinin-positive GABAergic interneuron subset in the amygdala
• the ability of cultured ES cells to differentiate into calretinin-positive neurons is impaired
• decrease in the calretinin-positive GABAergic interneuron subset in the amygdala
• hyperpolarization after four pulses of 100 Hz is reduced compared to wild-type controls suggesting impaired feedback-type inhibition
• altered plasticity in the amygdala lateral nucleus
• increased long term potentiation in the absence of the GABA receptor non-competitive antagonist picrotoxin
• however LTP is comparable to wild-type in presence of 100uM picrotoxin
• prepulse inhibition in the auditory startle response tends to be reduced without clear differences in auditory function
