mortality/aging
• following infection with 10^5 PFU H3N2; X31 influenza strain all mice survive, while about half of similarly infected wild-type mice die
• transfer of wild-type bone marrow cells into homozygous mice negates the protection from death following infection

renal/urinary system
• prominent dilation and epithelial hyperplasia
• epithelial hyperplasia

immune system
• mild follicular hyperplasia with germinal center in the white pulp
• increased number of lipid droplets in uninfected macrophages
• following infection fewer macrophages express viral proteins and differences in antigen expression are seen from 4h post infection
• viral titers of West Nile virus and Kunjin virus are significantly reduced
• following infection increase in lipid droplets is reduced compared to wild-type mice
• following infection with 10^4 PFU H3N2; X31 influenza strain, mice lose less weight over 10 days compared to similarly infected wild-type mice
• at 1 day post infection pro-inflammatory cytokines are reduced in lungs and bronchoalveolar lavage with a commensurate decrease in cell numbers at the infection site
• decreased numbers of alveolar and interstitial macrophages, neutrophils, gamma delta T cells, natural killer and natural killer T cells in the lungs at 1 day but not 2 or 3 days post infection
• lipid drop accumulation in the lungs after infection decreases in homozygous mice in contrast to wild-type mice where lipid droplets increase post infection
• equivalent numbers of CD8+ and CD4+ T cells are detected in the lungs post infection, with most CD8+ T cells showing effector phenotypes
• following infection with 10^5 PFU H3N2; X31 influenza strain all mice survive, while about half of similarly infected wild-type mice die
• transfer of wild-type bone marrow cells into homozygous mice negates the protection from death following infection

homeostasis/metabolism
• decrease in 69 distinct lipids and increase in 13 others
• downregulated lipids are ~25% cardiolipins and their derivatives and 37% lysophosphatidylethanolamines
• decreased levels of oleic, palmitoleic palmitic, and myristic acid

hematopoietic system
• mild follicular hyperplasia with germinal center in the white pulp
• mild extramedullary hematopoiesis and hemosiderin laden macrophages identified in the red pulp
• increased number of lipid droplets in uninfected macrophages
• following infection fewer macrophages express viral proteins and differences in antigen expression are seen from 4h post infection
• viral titers of West Nile virus and Kunjin virus are significantly reduced
• following infection increase in lipid droplets is reduced compared to wild-type mice

growth/size/body
• mild follicular hyperplasia with germinal center in the white pulp
