• mice show increased expression of proinflammatory genes in epididymal white adipose tissue (eWAT)
• mice fed a high-fat diet show increased expression of proinflammatory genes in eWAT
• eWAT from mice fed a high fat diet contains more remnant CD68+ cells after treatment with the drug auranofin than wild-type eWAT, suggesting that auranofin may be ineffective toward macrophage recruitment in mutant eWAT
• however, mice show no overt energy-balance phenotypes during postnatal growth and high-fat diet feeding and auranofin treatment of high-fat fed mice improves fasting glucose and insulin sensitivity similarly to wild-type mice
