• corneal stroma was 40 % thinner than wild-type
• collagen fibrils were larger with circular profiles
• anterior fibril diameters were 30.7 nm as opposed to 26.6
• posterior fibril diameters were 32 nm as opposed to 26.9
• fibril packing was less regular

immune system
• the number of neutrophils in LPS-treated corneas is decreased compared to in similarly treated wild-type mice
• however, CXC chemokine production is normal
• following lethal irradiation and transplantation of EGFP+ cells, infiltration of bone marrow-derived inflammatory cells into LPS treated corneas is reduced compared to in similarly treated wild-type mice

hematopoietic system
• the number of neutrophils in LPS-treated corneas is decreased compared to in similarly treated wild-type mice
• however, CXC chemokine production is normal
