• most homozygous mutant mice died during the first few days after birth

cardiovascular system
• 82% of mutant mice exhibited malpositioning of heart outflow tracts
• in wild-type mice, the aorta is located dorsal and to the left of the pulmonary artery; in contrast, the mutant aorta connected to the right ventricle and emerged from the heart in a ventral position and to the right of the pulmonary artery
• in wild-type mice, the pulmonary artery is always connected to the right ventricle; in mutant mice, the pulmonary artery connected to either the left or the right ventricle
• one out of seven mutant mice displayed double outlet right ventricle
• the pulmonary artery is connected to either the left or the right ventricle
• the aorta is connected to the right ventricle and emerged from the heart in a ventral position and to the right of the pulmonary artery
• in mutant mice, the apex of the heart pointed to the right (30%) or left (70%) side of the body; in wild-type mice, the apex of the heart pointed towards the left side of the body
• the position of the heart was independent of the position of the stomach; however, no looping abnormalities were observed at E8.5
