nervous system
• white matter of brain showed pale staining when stained for myelin compared to controls
• vacuoles began to appear in various nuclei in medulla at 2 months of age
• vacuoles began to appear in the thalamus at 2 months of age
• vacuoles appeared in layers 3 and 4 of the cerebral cortex beginning at 2 months of age
• vacuoles appeared in the cerebellar granule cell layer beginning at 2 months of age
• observed vacuoles in the brain of mutants with vacuolization becoming more severe and widespread with age and by 9 months of age, vacuoles were seen everywhere in the brain
• white matter spinal cord showed pale staining when stained for myelin compared to controls
