nervous system
• both males and females exhibit amyloid beta deposits in the brain, however females show more severe neuropathological alternations than males when compared at the same age and thus all further analysis was performed with females
• females exhibit intracellular amyloid beta aggregates in subiculum and pyramidal cells in CA1 and cortical layer V at 3 months of age, accumulation of diffuse extracellular amyloid beta in subiculum, alveus, and the retropsplenial granular cortex at 4 months of age, diffuse amyloid beta accumulation in thalamus, mammillary bodies, fimbria, fornix, motor cortex, and sensory cortex at 9 months of age, and additional diffuse accumulation in the entorhinal cortex, piriform cortex, lateral septum, and pons/medulla at 12-15 months of age
• females exhibit amyloid beta 40 and amyloid beta 42 immunoreactivity in plaque-like structures in subiculum at 6 months of age, and additionally in the thalamus, alveus, mammillary bodies, lateral septum, and pons/medulla, and around vessel walls in thalamus and subiculum at 12-15 months of age
