endocrine/exocrine glands
growth/size/body
• homozygotes are approximately half the normal size
mortality/aging
• many homozygotes die around 3 weeks of age, and if they survive through wean age will usually survive to adulthood and live a relatively normal lifespan
• there is some premature death in the adult population
• heterozygous intercrosses produce fewer than the expected 25% homozygotes
reproductive system
• decreased fertility compared with wild-type controls
• Background Sensitivity: with increased BALB/cByJ in the background some male homozygotes will breed, but fertility is still decreased relative to wild-type littermates
