integument
• primary cicatricial alopecia
• at 4 months on the ventral skin starting as gradual thinning of hair
• on the top of its head behind the ears
• however, hair shafts are normal
• ectatic ducts leading to the surface of the mucocutaneous junction from Meibomian and clitoral glands unlike in control mice
• sebocytes fail to fully disintegrate in the sebaceous gland and form clustered eosinophilic remnants in the infundibula
• in the skin
• older mice exhibit follicular dystrophy associated with inflammatory cells unlike in control mice
• follicular scars extend below sebaceous glands in the dermis unlike in control mice
• altered skin surface lipids (lower wax monoesters, unsaturated fatty acids and glycerophosphocholines but higher saturated fatty acids, triacylglycerols, ceramides and (lyso)phosphocholines
• very few clear cytoplasmic vacuoles instead containing irregular material
• with swollen mitochondria

homeostasis/metabolism
• altered skin surface lipids (lower wax monoesters, unsaturated fatty acids and glycerophosphocholines but higher saturated fatty acids, triacylglycerols, ceramides and (lyso)phosphocholines

endocrine/exocrine glands
• sebocytes fail to fully disintegrate in the sebaceous gland and form clustered eosinophilic remnants in the infundibula
• very few clear cytoplasmic vacuoles instead containing irregular material
• with swollen mitochondria
• in the skin
