Glossary Term Base
Definition One of a set of nitrogenous compounds attached to the sugar-phosphate backbone in a nucleic acid. In DNA, the purine bases are adenine (A) and guanine (G), while the pyrimidine bases are cytosine (C) and thymine (T). In RNA, the purine bases are adenine (A) and guanine (G), while the pyrimidine bases are cytosine (C) and uracil(U). See the Figure at Wikipedia.
