Definition |
A strain that is essentially homozygous at all loci. In mice, a strain produced from brother-sister matings for at least 20 sequential generations. C57BL/6J is a widely-used inbred strain of mouse. See also the Rules for Nomenclature of Mouse and Rat Strains. |
