Glossary Term Karyotype
Definition A description of the condensed chromosomes of a eukaryote as they are seen at metaphase. Additional details are revealed by a variety of staining techniques that produce banded chromosomes. See the idiogram of the mouse karyotype at the Department of Pathology at the University of Washington.
