Definition | An individual consisting of cells of two or more genotypes. One example is that of a normal female mammal heterozygous for different alleles of X-chromosome genes; because of the process of X-inactivation, such females consist of two cell types, each with a different X chromosome inactivated. This is an unusual example because there is no actual difference in genotype between the two cell types, but rather there is an epigenetic difference. |
