Glossary Term Northern Blot
Definition An assay that detects specific RNA molecules using a DNA or RNA probe with sequence similarity. Samples are subjected to electrophoresis on a slab gel. A replica of the gel is then made on a membrane by capillary transfer. Specific RNA sequences are then detected on the membrane with a radioactively- or chemically-labeled probe. See one of the Figures from GXD for an example.
