Glossary Term Shotgun Sequencing
Definition The sequencing of a large DNA segment through the sequencing of randomly-derived subsegments whose order and orientation within the large segment is unknown until the assembly of overlapping sequences. The method works if all positions in the large segment are covered by multiple overlapping subsegments.
