Black mouse (left) is C57BL/6J; brown mouse (right) is Rab38^cht/Rab38^cht homozygous mutant on the C57BL/6j background. Rab38^cht/Rab38^cht mice have a rich dark chocolate coat that can be difficult to distinguish, however it is made easier by the lack of pigmentation in the ear pinnae and tail.
