In contrast to control (A), Lamb3^IAP/Lamb3^IAP mutant (B) shows less distinct hemidesmosomes, with absence of the sub-basal dense plate. At lower magnification (C,D), hemidesmosomes (arrows) appear similar in controls and mutants. Anchoring filaments, however, are absent in mutants.
