In contrast with the unaffected skin section (Panel A) the affected skin section (Panel B) of the Aft/Aft⁺ shows focal areas of decreased hair follicle density with fibrous tracts, pigment incontinence and increased mass cells. In contrast with the unaffected skin section of the rc/rc mouse (Panel C) the affected skin (Panel D) shows not only a decrease in the number of follicles with fibrosis, pigment incontinence and mast cells but also fragments of free hair shafts in the deep dermis with a foreign body giant cell in the areas of aloepecia (arrow).
