Caption | Postnatal skeletal development of heterozygous Papss2bm/Papss2+ (left) and homozygous Papss2bm/Papss2bm mutant (right) mice. Papss2bm/Papss2bm mice are characterized by a dome shaped skull, short thick tail and shortened but not widened limbs. The size difference becomes apparent over the first four weeks of life. There is a 50% reduction in the limb length and a 25% reduction in the axial skeletal size. Calcified bone and cartilage stained differentially with Alzarin red and Alcian blue respectively at P0, P10 and P30 (Inserts). Papss2bm/Papss2+ (left) and Papss2bm/Papss2bm (right). Tibias of Papss2bm/Papss2+ (left) and Papss2bm/ Papss2bm (right) showing the similar size in all skeletal elements at P0 and the slower increases in length at P10 and P30. | ||||
